4 March 2005

Last year I stumbled across the Jones Soda Co. web site. They invite any/everyone to submit snapshots to their online gallery for possible use on their labels, which are changed almost monthly. It's wildly successful - there are more than a quarter of a million images in the Jones gallery archive!

This is a pretty clever method of advertising and promotion because it is largely consumer-driven. When a photo is used on a label, the lucky photographer will naturally spread the news far and wide and, since distribution is random, it sparks a sort of "easter egg" hunt for the pix.

The site and products are pretty much geared to the "skateboard" crowd, but I submitted a couple dozen pix just for the fun of it anyway.

Imagine my surprise when I found this in my mailbox:

1928 Stutz mascot "Ra"

I don't know why they removed "Stutz" from the badge. There's no possibility
of copyright violation because Stutz has been out of business for 70 years.

Halloween Mask

This molded mesh mask is in the schoolhouse in the ghost town Bodie, California.

To see all the photos I submitted, go to:
Jones Label Gallery
and type James Ritchie into the "Search for" box.

Let the hunt begin!

Jones Soda is available in local grocery and convenience stores, restaurants and delis across the U.S. and Canada, and nationally in Target Stores, Panera Bread, Starbucks, Cost Plus World Market, Barnes & Noble Cafes, and Zumiez.

Distribution of labels is random, so I have no idea when, or where, these will show up.

Please let me know if / when / where you find my pix.
